The Travel Team is a team that is created to expose serious swimmers to the level that exists in competitive swimming outside the state of Louisiana. This will include training trips and travel meets during the seasons, along with various championship meets around the southern area.
The expectations placed on members of the Travel Team are high. The requirements are all based on effort level and dedication. I (TJ) find this more important than time achievements. The expectations for this group are great, but the rewards for being in the group will be worth it. Saturday morning practices are no longer open to everyone. They will primarily be used for the travel team to concentrate on particular goals plotted out by the Head Coach at the beginning of the season.
If a swimmer, gets out on probation for not meeting the attendance requirements they have two weeks to get their attendance back to the requirement. If the attendance level is pulled back up after the next two weeks, the swimmer will be taken off probation. If the swimmer does not pull the attendance back up, they will be taken off of the travel team. Once a swimmer is removed from the team for any reason, they must wait six months to be eligible for the team. If a swimmer is on probation when a scheduled travel event comes up, it is left up to the discretion of the Head Coach if they are allowed to participate.
The travel team’s first scheduled event will be a training tip to Orlando Florida. The team will train in Orlando in a 50 meter pool for practice twice a week. In addition, there will be a dual meet at the end of the week with the home team. Furthermore, various events will be scheduled for the team while in Orlando, including a trip to Disney World. A more detailed description of the trip will be provided at a later date.
